Mac graduated cum laude with an A.B. in Chemistry from Harvard College and a secondary in Folklore and Mythology. He then went on to earn an M.A. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. Mac has taught 13 courses at Harvard and Penn, as a teaching assistant, head teaching assistant, and lecturer. He has earned six teaching awards, including one for his work to transition teaching organic chemistry lab courses to an online format during the spring of 2020. He has volunteered for many STEM education programs, such as GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) and ACES (Activities for Community Education in Science), and he established a collaboration at Penn to create organic chemistry resources for minority and first-generation students. Outside of teaching, Mac spends his time practicing photography and has taught photography courses in a studio in Hollywood.
