John grew up in Pittsburgh and was a National Merit Finalist at Peabody High School. He carried on a family tradition as a fourth-generation student at Oberlin College, where he graduated with a B.A. in English and Religion. He then received an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School and a Ph.D. in English at New York University. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on 18th-century British poetry, particularly Alexander Pope’s Dunciad. While at NYU, John taught undergraduate courses in English and Expository Writing.

John takes pride in his dedication to providing educational opportunities to students of all backgrounds. He is a former board chair and current board member of Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA). In addition to chairing LEDA’s Governance Committee, John organizes the SAT and ACT tutoring that Advantage Testing provides annually for 100 students at LEDA’s Summer Institute, hosted by Princeton University. John has tutored LEDA Scholars for standardized tests for over a decade.

John is a Director of Advantage Testing of the United Kingdom and an Associate Director of Advantage Testing, New York.
