Andy earned his B.A. in English and Religious Studies from Rice University, where he edited two books with a faculty mentor as a Rice Century Scholar and was the first editor-in-chief of the Rice English department’s literary journal. Andy then earned his M.F.A. in fiction in the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program, where he also taught drama, fiction, and composition. Recognized for academic excellence, Andy is a National Merit Finalist, a Rice Trustee Distinguished Scholar, a University of Houston Presidential Graduate Fellow, and a recipient of four National Latin Exam gold medals. One thing that Andy loves about tutoring, especially high school students, is that because tests come at a stage in life when students are beginning to develop skills of self-direction and independence, he can work to cultivate a sense of intrinsic motivation as he coaches them toward college readiness. Outside of tutoring, Andy enjoys film, books, photography, and travel.
