In order to figure out what we want to write, we must figure out what we like to read. In this mixed-levels workshop, students will read and react to fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. We will connect our gut reactions to concrete devices such as voice, plot, and imagery. By discovering what compels us as readers, we will learn who we want to be as writers.
Students will produce original work in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, building the beginning of a portfolio of writing that makes them proud. They will expand their reading and writing skills all the while expressing themselves and their tastes, bonding with the other members of the workshop, and having fun.
