Ryan earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he specialized in synthetic organic chemistry. His dissertation research focused on designing new therapeutics for breast cancer and studying how solvent environments influence molecular shape. Prior to his doctoral work, Ryan earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of South Florida, where he conducted undergraduate research on porphyria, a rare blood disorder.
Ryan has been teaching and tutoring students since his undergraduate years, working with both high school and college students across a variety of STEM subjects. While at UNC Chapel Hill, he also served as an instructor of record for general chemistry.
