Malia earned her B.A. from Princeton University, where she earned Departmental Honors and cum laude in English and Creative Writing.

She has received numerous awards for her writing across genres, including nonfiction and creative writing. For her senior thesis at Princeton, Malia wrote an original collection of poems titled Keeper of Histories under the mentorship of Professor Patricia Smith.

Malia recently returned home to the United States after a year in Madrid, Spain, where she worked as a high school English teacher at Brewster Madrid, an American school in the heart of the country’s capital. Working with 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade students taught Malia the importance of equipping young people with critical thinking, writing, and self-articulation skills. She has tutored middle and high school students in creative and critical writing and has worked with seniors to draft college personal statements.

Malia is also an avid reader and adventurer. Most importantly, she is the eldest of three sisters.
