Ira graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University, earning a B.S. in Neuroscience and a B.A. in Public Health. At Hopkins, she served as a Teaching Assistant for introductory science courses, leading weekly review sessions and one-on-one tutoring for over 120 students. She also mentored refugee and immigrant youth through the International Rescue Committee and founded H2Care, a mobile app connecting migrants in Baltimore to culturally competent healthcare providers.
Her research spans neuroscience, global health, and refugee medicine, including work at the Johns Hopkins HEAL Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative, Duke Global Neurosurgery and Neurology, and the DHS Center for the Study of Preparedness and Catastrophic Event Response. Her projects have focused on trauma and neurological outcomes among asylum seekers, healthcare system strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa, and mental health challenges faced by frontline workers during epidemic responses. She has co-authored multiple publications, including in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and Academia Mental Health and Well-Being, and presented at international conferences.
Ira has volunteered extensively in hospital settings, providing psychosocial support to pediatric and Alzheimer’s patients, and has led several public health and arts initiatives at Hopkins, including co-founding The Humans in Health Project and Noor, the university’s classical Indian dance team.
