Cole earned a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Brown University, graduating magna cum laude, and is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. He is currently a Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University, where he researches genetic engineering methods to improve the production of cell-based meat. His research experience also includes studying fungal communities in agricultural and forest ecosystems at the University of Georgia and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.
His broad scientific background allows him to approach challenging material from multiple perspectives and help students develop both strong foundational skills and a deeper understanding of the concepts they are learning.
Outside of teaching and research, Cole plays the violin, competed in javelin as a member of the Brown Track and Field team, and is an avid mycologist. He has spent summers conducting field research on fungi and even grew his own oyster mushrooms from spores. His favorite piece of music is Saint-Saëns’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor.
