Yan graduated from Rice University with a degree in Mathematics and Economics. While working in money management, he began teaching himself several programming languages and ultimately left the field to pursue an interest in digital development. Now, his programming interests revolve around decentralized applications and blockchain development. He is a Chief Strategist of The Firestarter Group, a non-profit located in Houston that focuses on social investment and enterprise incubation. While studying at Rice, he started a nonprofit organization, Amir, which uses garden education as a tool for inspiring youth. He currently serves on the Board of Directors. Additionally, he is an active writer, publisher, and media producer. His articles and films focus on the intersection of economics, immigration, and local community infrastructure. As a writer and mathematician, he enjoys helping students see the similar skills required to excel in both and breaking through limited conceptions of the right/left brain dichotomy.
