Kay attended the University of Houston with multiple merit scholarships—the Lynette Autry Foundation Scholarship, the Academic Excellence Scholarship, and the Conrad and Marcel Scholarship. A member of the Honors College and of Alpha Lambda Delta - Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, she graduated cum laude with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy, as well as a minor in History. After graduating, Kay substitute-taught for two years while obtaining her teaching credentials.  She was honored by the Texas Social Studies Association as Student Teacher of the Year.  After earning her social studies certifications for grades 4 through 12, she taught World Geography for a year before moving cities and finding her true passion—tutoring.

For several years she has focused on one-to-one tutoring in a wide variety of subjects. Kay approaches tutoring from a standpoint of building not just the ability to memorize facts or figures, but learning the skills and tools to solve problems as those skills will aid a student not just in their SAT prep or their next History exam, but in all life throws at them. She also believes that learning should be fun and incorporates jokes, songs, and games into her tutoring. Outside of work, Kay is a self-described nerd who enjoys board games, building Lego sets, and her weekly Dungeons and Dragons group.
