Helen received her B.A. from Harvard University, graduating cum laude in Social and Cultural Anthropology with coursework in Mythology, Poetry, Dramatic Literature, and Art. She then earned her M.F.A. in Dramaturgy from Harvard University’s A.R.T./MXAT Institute for Advanced Theater Training. Helen taught as a MacDowell Fellow while at Harvard, and she received three Derek Bok teaching awards for her courses in Set Design, Modern Dramatic Literature, and Acting. She was a National Merit Finalist and received the Louise Donovan Award. Helen still teaches drama and theatre at the college level, including courses like Academic Theories of the Theater, Chekhov and the Realists, and Modern American Drama. She also writes about the theater for a number of New York publications, including Time Out New York and the Village Voice.
